Get ready for La Leyenda 2018 with Christian Parrett
In choosing to tackle La Leyenda del Dorado, you’ve given yourself a massive event to prepare for! For that reason, we’ve prepared you a new training plan that can be found on the website. We’ll be using the newsletter to talk a little bit about the training plan, with an explanation and rationale behind it, and tips that will prepare you for every aspect of La Leyenda.
Our first block covers the October and November portions of your training. This far from the event, we’re in the early preparation phase of the plan. That means mostly low intensity cycling for now. It also means gym work that will strengthen your legs to produce power on the bike, and condition your upper body for the jarring descents of Caldas, Colombia.
Note that for the gym work, we’ve chosen free weights over machines. This is important, as they’ll be more challenging and do a better job of strengthening all your musculature and get far more done in far less time.
For the on-the-bike training, we’re mostly sticking to endurance work for now. We’re avoiding fancy zones or heart rate prescriptions in this program. Instead, we’ll go with common sense. Your endurance rides should be undertaken at a pace that’s steady, moderate, and fatiguing only. Please remember this is only a guide, and a missed day here and there won’t kill you!
Good luck, and we’ll be back to talk about the next phase of the training plan in a future newsletter. In the meantime, remember that La Leyenda del Dorado has an expert team if you have any doubts about your preparation.
