Focus on Stage 2 - River

Stage Two, River, is completely new to La Leyenda 2018 and is the second 'transfer' stage, from La Rochela to the beautiful town of Salamina. It starts off from within the race village of Confa La Rochela and a few undulating kilometres to cross the mighty Cauca for the first time in the town of Arauca. There follows a beautiful section that meanders along the side of the Cauca with quaint villages, numerous streams and mini bridges on the way, bringing you to the town of Irra to cross the river again, and then a super fast 16km singletrack to La Felisa. Here a 1,200m ascent awaits, recently christened 'The Wall II' due to its steep ramps and added temperature challenge. You'll leave the tropical river valley behind and climb to the cooler surrounds of coffee plantations higher up, with stunning views of the Central Andean mountain range everywhere you look, easing the strain slightly on those legs.
Another new town in La Leyenda 2018, La Merced, lies at the top the climb and there'll undoubtedly be thousands of people lining the streets as you pass through the main square and its aid station, you'll feel like you're in the Tour de France peloton heading up Alp D'Huez! The route then approaches Salamina from its western side, with views of the town across the valley on the final descent before the climb upto one of Colombia's most beautiful towns with spectators all along the streets to finish the 97km stage outside the church in its beautiful tree lined plaza.
