World Champion Lakata and Canyon Topeak Factory Racing go for Leyenda glory!
With less than four months to go until La Leyenda 2018 the UCI Male Elite line up has stepped up another level and promises to be the strongest in the race's history as we annouce that the current World Marathon Champion, Alban Lakata, and his Canyon Topeak Factory Racing team will be going for Leyenda glory in Colombia! Canyon Topeak are undoubtedly one of the 'big boys' on the world mountain bike stage race circuit and Alban will accompanied by Kristian Hynek from the Czech Republic, South Africa's Erik Kleinhans and Jeremiah Bishop from the USA as they look to make their mark in Colombia.
Lakata, also known as the 'Albantor,' is one of the world's most decorated mountain bikers, being a three time World Champion (2010, 2015 and 2017) and two-time European Champion (2008 and 2013), but he's always looking for a new challenge, something that Colombia provides with its long climbs and varying climates. Alban told us,
"I'm very motivated to race La Leyenda in Colombia, it's a new country for myself and the team to race in, and it's always good to try new things and visit new places.”
Lakata and Hynek, himself a European Marathon Champion and two time podium finisher in World Championships, are fresh from finishing second in the Cape Epic where they pushed winners Jaroslav Kulhavy and Howard Grotts all the way. They will be backed up by the experienced pair of Erik Klienhans, the Lion King of South African Mountain Biking, who's now finished 11 Cape Epics, and Jeremiah Bishop, a USA National Champion.
"We've heard very exciting and positive comments from previous participants about La Leyenda, which has made us all super excited to visit Colombia and experience this new race on the calendar, and we're definitely going with the aim to win!" said Team Manager Erik.
So, Lakata and Hynek, Kleinhans and Bishop, racing alongside Hans Becking and Tiago Ferreira, Leonardo Paez and Diego Arias, the fight for the La Leyenda 2018 title is certainly hotting up! There's still more teams to announce so make sure you keep tuned over the next few months as we build up to Colombia's premier multi-stage mountain bike race.
