La Leyenda Goes Tropical!
La Leyenda del Dorado, the most important mountain bike race in South America will take place in the Valle del Cauca, Colombia, in 2020, in what will be the fifth edition of UCI S1 accredited race. After hosting the previous three editions in Caldas, we've decided to give the race a new twist and the route will take place exclusively in the tropical surroundings of the Valle Del Cauca which will welcome the world's best professional and amateur mountain bikers.
As ever, there'll be seven demanding, consecutive stages on a stunning 450km route, starting on Sunday 26th July and finishing on Saturday 1st August, passing some of the Valle's most popular tourism locations, such as Lago Calima, the historic town of Buga, its two mountain ranges that flank either side of the valley, as well starting and finishing in the sultry city of Cali, the capital of the Valle del Cauca, also known as the Sporting Capital of the Americas.
Races and events like La Leyenda are helping put the Valle del Cauca firmly on the sporting and tourism map.
"We're bringing one of the most important mountain bike events in the world to the Valle which I'm sure will be an excellent host and make the first edition one to remember. Over the previous four editions we've welcomed riders from 34 countries and we're excited to show the places the Valle has to offer on the route, like Lake Calima, the tea fields and Central Cordillera, all places that I've got to know and love during my 15 years living here," said Brian Murphy, La Leyenda Race Founder.
It's the first time La Leyenda is taking place in the region and we're delighted to count on the support from the Regional Government, by way of Indervalle.
"We're delighted to be able support this race. The Valle Del Cauca will be the epicentre of this huge event and through it we'll be able to promote its tourism, sporting and cultural destinations. We welcome the race with open arms and want the whole world to come and see the wonders of this department," stated Carlos Felipe López, Indervalle Manager.
"It's an honour for the Valle del Cauca to receive La Leyenda, a world class event that will showcase the best of the region and tourism potential that it has. It's a great opportunity to expose the cultural vibrancy of each municipality on the route, as well as the landscapes, Paramos and forest that the department has. Spiwak Hotels, Cali and the Valle have a modern, excellent tourism infrastructure to receive the best professional and amateur races in the world so they can enjoy this festival of mountain biking in 2020," said Boris Spiwak, Vice President of Hotel Spiwak.
La Leyenda is raced in pairs and has five categories available just for amateurs. In La Leyenda 2019 there were 250 racers from 24 countries and registrations for 2020 are open right now on the website!
