Christoph Sauser, one of the most decorated mountain bikers in history, will be returning to race La Leyenda 2019 for his third time. Four time World Champion, Olympic medallist, and five time Cape Epic Champion, amongst many other titles, Christoph has won just about every major honour in his field and was the first confirmed professional in La Leyenda 2016, our first edition of the race.
“I love Colombia, the people, landscapes and diversity - there is just so much to see and explore! Looking at the new route, my favourite stages will be in Salamina and the Volcano. Salamina is a beautiful town with incredible spectators and the volcano is the centre-piece of La Leyenda, amazing views, rough landscapes but sensitive too, it’s simply outstanding,” Christoph told us.
Christoph enjoys coming to Colombia so much that he has a new business venture to showcase one of country’s most famous exports, coffee. Horizonte Coffee Roasters sources raw coffee beans from Caldas, home of La Leyenda, and Cauca, via local experts Siruma Coffee, and Christoph then ships it to Switzerland, for roasting, packaging and sale.
No doubt Christoph will be taking a key interest in the numerous coffee plantations the 2019 route passes and being Christoph’s third Leyenda, upon completion he’ll become a member of the Jaguares club, about which you can read more on the website. Christoph’s love for Colombia, faith in La Leyenda and respected reputation in the mountain biking world has helped us grow La Leyenda to what it is today, and it’s a pleasure to welcome him back to Colombia.
