Helping the Next Generation
In last October’s newsletter we announced the construction of a new classroom for Colegio Pio XII in the municipality of Neira, as La Leyenda’s new social responsibility project. Inspired by the cash donation of Coqui Ramallo and Mariana Benítez, Leyenda 2018 racers, and also supported by the Secretary of Education for Neira, Sancancio Shopping Centre, Herragro and Toptec, construction began in October and we’re pleased to say is now nearing completion after several months of hard work from the whole community.
“It’s great to see the construction growing and become a reality for all the students at Colegio Pio XII, thanks to Coqui, Mariana and our sponsors. We’ve received so much support from them over the years and it’s wonderful to be able to give something back to them. We know they’ll be shouting and cheering all the racers on as they go past in stage 4!” said Diego Velásquez, La Leyenda General Manager.
When finished the school’s Grade 11 students will have a new 60m2 classroom guaranteeing a much better quality of education, given that they have often had to use the school cafeteria and volleyball court for class up to now, making it a struggle for some students to reach their required teaching time and unfortunately preventing them receiving their high school diplomas. As mentioned by Diego, racers will pass it on their way to the final steep climb in Neira, making for a great spectacle for the students and a very rewarding sight for Coqui and Mariana who kick started this wonderful project.
